1938 Parker Brothers Disney's Snow White
1937 Mr. Ree The Fireside Detective Board Game
This game pre-dates Clue by 6 years, so it's likely that Anthony Pratt, author of Clue, relied heavily on "Mr. Ree" as the basis of his still-popular game. There are many similarities between the two games - both feature a game board depicting several rooms in a house; there are a group of possible suspects, and various weapons used to perpetrate the crime. In Mr. Ree, cards direct the players around the board whereas in Clue players roll dice. There are other differences as well, which you'll discover as you read the Instruction Booklet.
Mr. Ree was first published in 1937 by the Selchow and Richter Company of New York. This is the "updated" version which came out in 1946. It's a nice retro blast from the past, and its obvious connection with Clue is interesting. If you have a collection of vintage games, this one certainly needs to be a part of it!
